I’ll never forget walking down a dark alley with my wife and one-year-old daughter. I didn’t want to be there. I was anxious. But just a week prior I had agreed to relocate our small group to our new friend’s house. They had just moved to the city, didn’t speak much English, and promised to make us their favorite native foods (none of which I had ever heard of before). Needless to say I second guessed the idea nearly the entire evening. But these were our friends, this was our community.
